Connecting an iPod to a car stereo

I’ve been looking for a way to connect an iPod to Kate’s car stereo.

She has a Ford Ka with the factory-fitted Ford 6000 CD/Radio. It looked like we would have to buy a new stereo for the car, with the capability of controlling a CD changer, then fit a new fascia around it to keep it flush with the dashboard. The new stereo would probably have been an Alpine, costing around £200. Add to that the Alpine stereo-to-iPod interface at £70 and it’s getting quite expensive.

But this morning I found the Ice Link Plus adapter. It plugs directly into the back of the 6000 stereo (the website tells me the 6000 has a CD controller input, but I have to check tonight). Then you can use the existing stereo’s buttons to control the iPod. The iPod itself sits in a little dock which hooks into the dashboard. Total price is £170.

Sweet!

I’ll check the Ka’s stereo tonight and if it’s CD controller-ready than it’s in the bag.
