Google is now tracking the locations of taxis and shuttle buses, and you can view a live feed of their location on a highly detailed map.
I think this is pretty amazing, and would like to see this technology being used in England for our trains, buses and taxis.
Looking at the map I imagined all sorts of possibilities. As I was looking at the US map at around 3am US time, a lot of taxis seemd to be parked and stationary outside suburban houses - you can see where the drivers live!
The scond thing I thought of was dialling the taxi company number and asking to be picked up at the Jefferson Memorial in Washington DC, just so I could track the taxi's movement onscreen!
This will also be great once you can track someone's GPS coordinates using their mobile phone as the transmitter, although it does open up a huge can of privacy worms.
I'm Paul Carvill. I'm a professional web designer working at The Guardian.
