  • "Delhi has always become a home to people who arrived from elsewhere, enriched the city, adding flavours and culinary traditions to what we call our own. Our third anniversary issue tracks down some of those communities to see what’s cooking today."

    The regional cooking in India is so strong, and Delhi is so huge, you can get great authentic food from all around the country there. I'm not so sure the city is so good at serving up international food, though – I tried the The All-American Diner in the India Habitat Centre, grabbing a quick bite before heading into a Carnatic music recital, and was massively, some might say predictably, underwhelmed.

  • "The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 requires the creation of “a website on the Internet to be named Recovery.gov, to foster greater accountability and transparency in the use of funds made available in this Act.” Recovery.gov went live on February 17, 2009, the day President Obama signed the Act into law.

    The site's primary mandate is to give taxpayers the user-friendly tools to track Recovery funds
    – how and where they are spent. These tools — in the form of charts, graphs, and maps, which the site continues to enhance and refine — offer both telescopic and microscopic views of Recovery projects across the country, from the national overview down to specific zip codes.

    The site also provides an online way for reporting any suspected fraud, waste or abuse related to Recovery funding and projects."

How much did I enjoy watching Weeds?

Monday, April 12th, 2010

I’m mucking about with Raphael and trying to build myself a decent graphing library, so I thought I should probably put it to some use, if only to force myself to work on it and improve it and not get stuck in development hell. So, there may be some graphs that work, and some that don’t work.

Wikipedia says of Weeds: “The sixth season will premiere on August 16, 2010″. I hope it continues the return to form that the 5th season found towards the end of its run.

  • Not really about Rock Stars, more about just keeping good developers happy. A few good ideas here, some more obvious than others. E.g. "Allow ample time for proper development and, if that’s not possible due to arbitrary deadlines, allow developers to circle back after the fact to clean up. Great developers loath writing shitty code; at least give them the opportunity to revisit quickly/poorly written code. They’ve got a reputation to uphold you know!"
  • "…twitter’s API currently places some artificial constraints on transmission speed. Twitter currently allows API clients to only post up to 150 messages per hour. This practically limits this mechanism to a maximum speed of 0.019kbps. But do not despair! Serious users of twitter may apply for an elevated rate limit of 20,000 requests per hour, which increases throughput to a comparatively blazing 2.51kbps. A bigger problem is that this mechanism might be used for illegal file sharing. And indeed, since it only takes a mere 60,000 or so tweets (or about 17 days) to upload an MP3, it would be pretty hard to resist that temptation. I can only appeal to user’s moral judgment to ensure tweetftp is only used for the right reasons."
  • Why Whython?

    * Less Whitespace, More Enterprise
    * It’s not a real language without braces and semi colons
    * Whitespace delimited is like so restrictive, man!
    * Python sucks for code golf
    * Finally, a Python for everyone who can’t decide between tab and space

    etc. etc. LOL.
